Secular Trend

A market trend that is sustained over the long term. The term is most often used to distinguish long-term trends from seasonal variations and the effects of economic cycles. For example, the equity market uptrend from the early 1980s to the end of the dot com boom in 2000 is often described as a secular market even though the crash of October 1987 occurred during this period.
