Net Position
The difference between long and short market positions held by an individual or a company. If a dealer has 100 short futures contracts and 80 long contracts, he has a net short position of 20 contracts. Conversely, if he has sold 120 contracts and bought 150 contracts he has a net long position of 30 contracts.
